While hitting out at India for its "hostile posturing" along the Line of Control (LoC) and Working Boundary, Pakistani lawmakers have raised the spectre of a nuclear war in the region in the backdrop of unabated ceasefire violations along the boundary, a report said.
During a debate on the spike in tensions along the LoC in the National Assembly, retired Major Tahir Iqbal, a lawmaker from the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), warned that the hostilities between India and Pakistan could "trigger a nuclear war," reported The Express Tribune.
He added that if a nuclear war breaks out between the two countries, its flames will engulf the entire world. While stressing that retaliation to the Indian aggression is inevitable, he advocated a "tit for tat" strategy for India.
Iqbal also said that Pakistan must foil India's attempts to become a permanent member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council as it will then be eligible to enjoy veto power which could damage the Kashmir cause at the international forum.
