Former Pakistani Test cricketers Sarfraz Nawaz and Zaheer Abbas said that both the Indian and the Pakistani governments should play a role in the revival of the India-Pakistan bilateral cricket series next year.
India has not played a full bilateral series with Pakistan since 2007 although it invited Pakistan for a short series in India last December.
According to The Nation, Nawaz said that interim Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi has given special attention for the revival of India-Pakistan bilateral series, adding that Sethi could make it happen with some help from both the governments.
Agreeing with Nawaz, Abbas said that he had earlier proposed that a stadium or ground should be built at a neutral venue for the Pak-India series to be played there, adding that besides cricket, multi-sports activities should also be held between the two nations.
Stating that sports can be a tool to make both the countries' relations better and prosperous, Abbas further said that as sports are a source of income, a series revival would result in the betterment of the economy of both the countries and would also provide business opportunities.
Abbas also suggested that the Pakistan-India series should be given a name like the Australia-England Ashes series to make it more memorable.
