Pakistan's Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, has claimed that their national team's chief selector, Moin Khan, should be punished for visiting the casino during the World Cup, as he stated that gambling is 'haram'.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief selector visited a casino in Brisbane ahead of Pakistan's match against West Indies in the ongoing World Cup campaign and came under severe criticism for the same.
And now the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs has joined in. Yousuf claimed that gambling is 'haram' and insisted that any Muslim taking part in it should be punished, The Express Tribune reported.
Khan had received severe criticism for the incident although he claimed that he had gone to the casino with his wife for dinner.
The PCB had called the chief selector back to Pakistan and sought a clarification over his visit to the casino, and after Khan apologised, the board's chief Shahryar Khan said that the visit should no more be a topic of controversy as the former wicketkeeper-batsman clarified his stance and apologised to the nation as well.
When the chief selector returned to Karachi, a group of youngsters waited at the main exit of the Karachi international airport with banners against him.
However, the former Pakistan captain slipped away in a waiting car, but the ordeal was still not over for Khan as security had to be deployed at his house where angry protesters had started to gather, the report added.
