The mainstream political parties in Pakistan have urged the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to clarify its position over a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), which claims that the party was funded by the Indian government.
According to Dawn News, the parties asked MQM to file a defamation case against the BBC if the report is fabricated.
PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said that the BBC would find it difficult to defend itself if the report was not based on facts since the UK had tough defamation laws.
He recalled that the PML-Q had won a case against a British newspaper, The Guardian, after a defamation suit was filed as they had published a baseless report about his party.
