Pakistan's Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notices to the attorney general and the advocates general on a petition that has questioned the sanctity of military courts, and the government's move to establish them in violation of the Constitution.
The notices have been sent on the orders of a three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk after the hearing of a petition filed by representatives of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) that challenged the establishment of military courts under the 21st constitutional amendment, reports Dawn News.
The petition was filed by LHCBA President Advocate Shafqat Chauhan along with Advocate Hamid Khan.
The petition contends that military courts violate the rights of citizens listed in Article 8 of the Constitution, and were therefore, unconstitutional.
