Pakistan Government needs to take up the issue of terrorism on a priority basis if it wants to revive the country's economy, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said.

In a statement issued by JUI-F's spokesman Jan Achakzai, Rehman urged the newly elected Nawaz Sharif government to prepare a comprehensive 'national anti-terrorism strategy,' as only the federation could take effective measures to restore peace.

According to Dawn News, he asked Sharif to consult his political allies on how to tackle terrorism because any further delay would worsen the security situation in Pakistan.

He also urged the government to seek suggestions and cooperation of civilian and non-civilian institutions in the country, including the army, and make them a part of the national strategy to deal with terrorism, the report said.

He said that 'wheels of the economic engine had been jammed' by increasing terrorism in the country.

He added that no investment will come to Pakistan and production capability will remain frozen if Pakistan failed to work for peace through a well-thought-out national strategy, the report added.
