Reacting to Pakistan's invitation to the Hurriyat leaders for a meeting on the same day as the NSA-level talks, Defence expert Rahul Jalali on Thursday said that the Hurriyat was being used by Pakistan as an 'instrument' to ensure that India is forced to take steps to cancel the upcoming talks between the two nations.

"Pakistan is desperate that India calls off the talks. This is a meeting of the NSA where India will put forth its part on terrorism and we have Naved and his evidence against Pakistan, which is a major reason why they want the talks cancelled," Jalali told ANI here.

"They are trying to get India to call of the talks, which is why all these provocations are happening. Cross border firing, inviting Hurriyat, going to the UN, calling the Indian envoy in Pakistan, all this is part of that game," he added.

Speaking on the Separatists leaders accepting the invite by Pakistan, the defence expert added that that one level the Hurriyat talks about how they want the Indo-Pak talks to happen, but by accepting the invitation, they are endangering the very thing they claim to want.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chairman of moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference, on Wednesday said that his proposed meeting with Pakistan's National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz should not be 'politicised' as the common intent of both sides is a peaceful dialogue between the two neighbouring nations and resolution to the Kashmir conflict.
