A Palestinian minister has been killed in a confrontation with Israeli troops at a demonstration in the West Bank, a report said.
Palestinian medics said that Ziad Abu Ein had died due to complications related to tear gas exposure. However, several witnesses said that the minister had been hit and shoved by soldiers. One of the witnesses said that Ein was hit in the chest by a tear gas canister, reported the BBC.
The Israeli military (IDF) said that it was investigating the incidents surrounding the death of the minister. It added that a team of Israeli and Jordanian experts would attend a post-mortem examination and proposed to set up a joint team with the Palestinians to investigate the death.
UN Secretary Ban Ki-moon called for an investigation into the incident and urged all aides to exercise restraint and avoid escalation.
