Following the Supreme Court (SC) issuing notices to him and others, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday welcomed the judicial proceedings in the Panama Papers case.

Earlier in the day, five petitions were taken by the apex court involving the Prime Minister and several others. The three-member bench had issued notices to the Prime Minister, his family members and others made party in the petition seeking his disqualification on account of the Panama Papers leaks.

The Dawn quoted Sharif as saying, "I welcome the judicial proceedings in connection with Panama Papers."

After consulting with his legal team, the Prime Minister in a statement said, "The court of public opinion has been making decisions, it would be better to wait for the judiciary's decision."

He held the opposition responsible for the prolonged delay into investigation of the matter by a judicial commission.

Sharif claimed that he had made his stance on the matter clear in the National Assembly and before the people and had also announced a commission to probe Panama gate.
