All-rounder Hardik Pandya displayed his batting prowess on Thursday night as Mumbai Indians set a challenging target of 172 for Kolkata Knight Riders in their Indian Premier League tie at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Put into bat first, Mumbai Indians got off to a promising start as openers Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons struck a couple of meaty boundaries to give initial thrust before their respective dismissals.
While Parthiv (21) fell prey to Shakib Al Hasan's delivery, Simmons (14) was dismissed off on a Morne Morkel's bowling.
Mumbai Indians were reeling at 79-4 in the 12 over after Ambati Rayadu and skipper Rohit Sharma were dismissed for their respective scores of 2 and 30.
However, Kieron Pollard (33 not out) found an able ally in Pandya as the duo built an unbeaten 92-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Pandya smacked a brisk 61 not out, including eight fours and two sixes, to propel his side post a challenging total.
