All ten candidates from Uttar Pradesh who were seeking to elected to the Rajya Sabha, including Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, have been elected unopposed.
Apart from Parrikar, the other prominent candidates who have received certificates confirming their election to the Upper House are Ram Gopal Yadav, P.L. Punia and Neeraj Shekhar, said Pradeep Duby, Principal Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh State Assembly and Returning Officer for Rajya Sabha election in Lucknow.
In all, eleven nominations were filed, but after scrutiny, the nomination of Qamar Ahmad was rejected as his papers were not found in order.
Besides Parrikar, the other candidates elected unopposed in the biennial elections for the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh are Ram Gopal Yadav, Tazeem Fatima, Neeraj Shekhar, Ravi Prakash Verma, Javed Ali Khan, Chandrapal Singh Yadav, P.L. Punia, Raja Ram and Veer Singh.
