The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday said Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's criticism of the UPA-II regime was based only on facts mentioned in the CAG report on ammunition management.

It said the NDA Government would not be found wanting as far as India's security is concerned.

"Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has stated facts. The CAG report is for the period of the UPA-II regime and extends up to 2013. Since then, a lot of decisions have been taken, first by Defence Minister Arun Jaitley and now by Parrikar. The Prime Minister himself has been able to tie up the deal with the Rafale with the Government of France," BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli told ANI.

Kohli said the present government will not be found wanting on any count as far as India's security is concerned.

Parrikar has accused the UPA-II Government of not maintaining stocks of arms and ammunition, adding that there has been a substantial improvement under the present NDA Government.

The CAG report has cautioned that ammunition shortage with reserves that would hardly last 20 days should an intense fight take place.
