PCB fines Afridi, Akmal for failing to meet new fitness standards

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly fined 12 players including, allrounder Shahid Afridi and batsman Umar Akmal, for failing to meet the new fitness standards set by the board in June.

A PCB spokesperson said that the players were assessed by the PCB earlier in September, and the 12 who failed to meet the standards would lose 25 percent of a month's salary, reported News 24.

A total of 29 players were assessed between September 6 and 8, the spokesman added.

Other players who failed to meet the fitness standards include, Khurram Manzoor, Sarfraz Ahmed, Abdur Rehman, Haris Sohail, Sohaib Maqsood, Mohammad Irfan, Sharjeel Khan, Mohmmad Talha, Raza Hassan and Zulfiqar Babar.

The report said that percent bonuses were awarded to five players for improving their fitness. While Test and one-day captain, Misbah-ul Haq, Ahmed Shahzad and Bilawal Bhatti will get ten percent bonus, Shan Masood and Umar Amin will get 17 percent bonus of their monthly salaries, the spokesperson said.

The assessment procedure involves five different levels that require players to undergo 17 tests.
