The Press Council of India (PCI) has appointed a one-man inquiry committee to look into the facts of the gangrape of a 23-year-old photojournalist in Mumbai.
PCI chairperson Justice Markandey Katju, in a statement released here, said that PCI member Rajeev Sabade will inquire into the facts of the case and then submit a report at an early date.
The incident took place last evening in Lower Parel area where the 23-year-old woman had gone for an assignment.
She was working with an English Magazine as an intern. According to police, the men tied up the friend who was accompanying her and raped the woman.
The victim, who was admitted to Jaslok Hospital, had sustained multiple internal injuries. She is stated to be in a stable condition now.
The Centre has sought a detailed report on the gangrape incident.
Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today said that he has spoken to the Commissioner of Police on the gangrape incident in Mumbai urging for stringent action.
