With no clear mandate in sight in Jammu and Kashmir, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday was leading the race, as per latest reports, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) close on its heels, as the state headed towards a hung assembly.
The PDP is leading in 28 seats, while the BJP is ahead in 25 seats till now. Meanwhile, trends show that the National Conference is leading in 15 seats, a change of 13 since the 2008 assembly polls whereas the Congress is ahead in 12 seats.
In Jharkhand, the BJP is leading in 43 seats now while its closest competitor, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, is leading in 19.
The Congress party and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha are both leading in six and seven seats respectively.
To form the government in Jharkhand, a party or an alliance will require 41 seats, while in Jammu and Kashmir, the golden number is 44.
