People from India and Pakistan converged at the Wagah Border in Amritsar for a candlelight march on the occasion of Independence Day.
The candlelight march is an annual affair at the Wagah Border and is being held regularly for the last two decades with the aim of promoting friendly relations between the two countries.
Peaceniks from both the sides of the border raised slogans hailing friendship between the two countries.
"There is an urgent need to build friendly relations between the two countries to fight the menace of terrorism," said a local, Ramesh Yadav to ANI.
Another local, Harpreet Singh said that repeated attacks by Pakistan-based terrorists in India could adversely affect the bilateral ties and Islamabad should take steps to rein in terrorist.
As the nation celebrates its 71st Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion for the fourth time.
