Manchester City football team boss Manuel Pellegrini has said that Liverpool could not deal with the pressure in last year's Premier League title race.

Liverpool had led City by seven points with four games left to go, only for Brendan Rodgers' side to blow their chance of a first title for 24 years in last Premier League season.

The two sides meet at the Etihad Stadium on Monday with Pellegrini suggesting that Liverpool could not handle the pressure of closing out the title race, which City eventually won by two points, The Mirror reported.

Pellegrini was convinced that City were still in the title race, despite his squad losing 3-2 to Liverpool at Anfield, with the Chilean proving right when his side capitalised on their rivals' collapse to win it.

Pellegrini said that he was absolutely convinced when he said the words -'Careful it's not finished'- because they had to play four games more. He added that the pressure when one is at the top of the table is increasing after every game.

The City boss said that the most important thing for them was not to think about Liverpool but think about what they had to do. Pellegrini added that his side had to win the five games and they did and that's why it was not a surprise.

Pellegrini said that the surprise was that City lost the game 3-2 because they played better, and added that he cannot talk about what happened with Liverpool at that moment but, for his experience, when one is finishing the season the pressure increases every week for every team, not only for Liverpool.

Pellegrini added that that is why he was absolutely sure Liverpool weren't going to win the five games that they had to play. He said that it was so important that City did it.
