Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has claimed responsibility for his side's steady decline in the Premier League, which has now threatened their spot for the Champions League next season.

Title holders City suffered their sixth loss in their last eight games following a 4-2 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday night.

Earlier in January, Pellegrini's men were level on points with leaders Chelsea, nine points above rivals United.

Currently, City are fourth in the points table, 12 points behind Jose Mourinho's men and four points behind third-placed United, and could face a potential challenge from Liverpool for the fourth spot.

Following the defeat at Old Trafford, Pellegrini said that it was his responsibility and the only way they could change this is by winning games, the BBC reported.

Pellegrini refused to talk about his position, claiming that it was not important, but insisted that they have 18 more points to play for and must not be dramatic.
