The Pentagon has reportedly deemed it "unacceptable" to comply with the Syrian government's recent request for a 100-day extension to meet a U.N.-backed deadline for destroying the nation's chemical weapons stocks.
The UN resolution has asked Syria to meet the end of June deadline to destroy all its chemical weapons and equipment.
According to the Washington Times, under a plan backed by the U.S. and Russia, the Syria government is to transport the materials to the port of Lattakia in the Mediterranean Sea just north of Lebanon, and from there, European ships will carry the materials to the U.S. cargo ship, the "Cape Ray".
Not happy with the delay, Pentagon spokesman Steven Warren said that the Pentagon was calling on the Syrians to accelerate their movement of these chemical weapons, adding that the Syrians have international obligations that they need to live up to.
Syrians have transported a total of four shipments of chemical weapons to Lattakia till date.
