People in Bihar participated in 'run for vote' to create awareness among voters and urged civilians to exercise their franchise fearlessly.

Participants gathered in Gaya for the marathon and asked people to turn out in huge numbers on voting day.

Attacks in Maoist affected areas increase before every election season, as the rebels are against the democratic exercise. Maoists threaten people to boycott elections and instill fear among rural people.

Commissioner of Police of Gaya, R.K. Khandelwal, said activities by Maoists had resulted in low turnout of voters in the previous elections.

"The voter turnout in last election was quite low. Our only motive is that all voters, especially women, young and new voters and people from weaker sections, should vote without any apprehensions," said Khandelwal.

The marathon saw participation of schoolchildren, college students, common people and activists, apart from government officials.

"Casting your vote is very important. Give vote to anybody, but give your vote because that will help in growth of our nation," said a student, Saumyata Jha.
