Perth Test: Elgar, Duminy tons help Proteas tighten grip on Day 3

Opener Dean Elgar and middle-order batsman JP Duminy struck scorching centuries as South Africa stretched their lead to 388 runs at stumps on Day three of the opening Test against Australia at the WACA Ground here on Saturday.

Resuming at their overnight score of 104-2, Elgar (127) and Duminy (141) forged a magnificent third-wicket partnership of 250 runs to propel the visitors to the second innings score of 390-6.

At the end of day's play, Quinton de Kock and Vernon Philander were batting at their respective score of 16 and 23.

For Australia, Peter Siddle and Josh Hazlewood,who both ended their day two with a wicket each, added one more wicket into their account by the end of the third day's play.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Marsh and Mitchell Starc also chipped in with a wicket each.

Earlier, in reply to the Proteas' first innings score of 242 runs, the Steve Smith-led side were bundled out for 244 despite some resilient efforts by openers David Warner (97) and Shaun Marsh (63).
