Phil Simmons has been reinstated as West Indies coach after making a public apology for an outburst over the squad selected for the ongoing tour of Sri Lanka.

Simmons was suspended in September after he alleged that he was prohibited from picking all-rounders Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka despite receiving support from chairman of selectors Clive Lloyd.

The West Indies Cricket Board said that Simmons had made a public apology to the board and national selectors, and received a letter of reprimand 'for his inappropriate comments', Sport24 reported.

Simmons, who became head coach of their senior squads in March, admitted that he regret his public outburst and the revelation of the voting that took place at the team selection meeting and insisted that he was looking forward to do coaching job with the West Indies senior men's team.

After suffering both Test and ODI series, West Indies will try to salvage some pride when they will take on Sri Lanka in the Twenty20 series in the second match on Wednesday at Colombo.
