Diversity data released by Pinterest, relating to its workforce, has showed that its work space is dominated by white and male, just like other tech companies.
According to CNET, although 40 percent of Pinterest's employees are women yet when the numbers are broken down, only 19 percent occupy leadership positions while 21 percent are engaged in engineering, product management, and design. The statistics are striking because Pinterest is a social media platform that is used by women primarily.
The figures pertaining to racial diversity are even more skewed with 50 percent of the company's employees being white. Only 42 percent are Asian, 2 percent Hispanic and 1 percent black.
While admitting that Pinterest needs to work towards improving the ethnic diversity of its work space, Tracy Chou, software engineer and tech lead, wrote in a blog post that the social media platform is focused on getting better.
