The new campus of IIIT Naya Raipur (IIIT-NR), which has been set up with a vision to nurture the next generation IT entrepreneurs and industry-oriented professionals, was dedicated to the nation today by Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal.
Goyal also launched the institute's website in the presence of Chhattisgarh's Chief Minister Dr. Raman Singh and announced an innovation lab to be set up by NTPC in the institute.
The IIIT-NR is an initiative of the Government of Chhattisgarh started with the support of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Ltd.
Led by an empowered Board, with eminent members such as Mr. Ajai Chowdhry (Founder HCL) and Dr. A. Paulraj (Marconi Awardee), the campus is spread across 50 acres and boasts of the best-in-class facilities including smart classrooms, well-equipped labs and gigabit internet connectivity (the National Knowledge Network -NKN). The aesthetically designed and spacious campus is ready to welcome its first batch of students from this academic session i.e. August 2015, offering B.Tech in CSE & ECE.
IIIT-NR is bringing together an eco-system of industry and knowledge partners to provide students access to resources needed to excel. Set up with an investment of Rs. 200Cr and with a scholarship fund of Rs 18Cr, the Institute is looking forward to attract the best of faculty and students into its fold. With collaborations being established with PSUs, IT industry, local academic institutions and Government, the Institute is gearing up to become the hub for the innovation ecosystem in Chhattisgarh.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Raman Singh said, "I am happy that Hon'ble Minister Shri Piyush Goyal has taken time out to inaugurate the IIIT-NR campus. Joining hands with NTPC Ltd., we believe that our Government has created a golden opportunity for Chhattisgarh to contribute in earnest to the 'Make in India' effort. In the best interest of incoming students, I am happy to announce that we are waiving off the 1st year fee of all students joining in 2015-16."
Prem Prakash Pandey, the state's Minister of Higher Education, said, "Realizing the importance of new technologies for socio-economic development, the Govt. of Chhattisgarh has launched multiple initiatives. One such effort is establishment of IIIT-NR in the smart city Naya Raipur. We encourage the local industry and other institutions to leverage this knowledge hub to create solutions which will put Chhattisgarh further ahead on the road to creating a Digital India as envisioned by the Hon'ble Prime Minister."
