Appealing to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentarians to regularly attend the Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said it was their foremost duty to attend the sessions in both Houses.

Prime Minister Modi said while he understood the plethora of work the parliamentarians deal with, he could not mark their attendance without them being present there.

"We understand your responsibility has increased. You have a lot of work. But coming to the Parliament is your foremost duty. I can do everything but how can I mark your attendance," sources quoted Prime Minister Modi as saying during the BJP Parliamentary meeting today.

Today was the first parliamentary party meeting after the BJP's splendid show in the recently-conducted assembly polls.

The meeting also assumed significance as it was aimed at mapping out the path ahead for the party.
