Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday bowed down to Guru Tegh Bahadur on the occasion of his 'Prakash Utsav'.
Prime Minister Modi took to Twitter for extending his message.
"On his Prakash Utsav I bow to Guru Teg Bahadur ji. His bravery and spirit of sacrifice will always inspire people," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
Guru Tegh, also known as Hind-di-Chaadar (Protector of India) became the 9th Guru of Sikhs on 16 April 1664, a position earlier occupied by his grand-nephew, Guru Har Krishan.
Guru Tegh Bahadur was executed on the orders of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in Delhi.
