Taking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his remarks on electricity shortage in Uttar Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday called on the former to grab any wire across the state to ascertain the flow of electricity.

Referring to Modi as 'baba' during an election rally in Gorakhpur, Akhilesh Yadav said, "A 'baba' has said that there is no electricity in U.P., I would like to tell him that we are providing electricity for 22 to 24 hours. If he feels that there is no electricity, he can hold any wire and he would get to know if there is electricity."

"He can also go to any place in Gorakhpur and he will find a laptop provided by our government," he added.

Yadav also condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for accusing Samajwadi Party of practising discrimination while implementing developmental schemes.

"BJP says we do politics on discrimination. I want to say we have never practised discrimination. We have given pension in Gorakhpur and we have given it to 1 lakh poor women without any discrimination," he said.

While highlighting the failures of the Samajwadi Party, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday had said that despite the Centre's assistance the SP-led government had failed to provide basic necessities to people.

"Your Chief Minister is claiming that he is providing electricity. Are you getting electricity? You are lucky that the elections in Mau are being held so late. This is why you still have electricity. Once elections are over, you won't have electricity," the Prime Minister said in Mau.

He further said that the Centre had allotted funds for 24/7 power supply, which were never utilised by the state government.
