Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated veteran actor Shashi Kapoor for being selected for the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award.
Prime Minister Modi took to twitter to convey his congratulations.
"Shashi Kapoor ji is a fine actor and a stalwart of the film industry. I congratulate him for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award," he tweeted.
Born in 1938, Kapoor is known for his roles in Namak Halaal, Satyam Shivam Sundaram and Deewar, and has acted in over 100 movies to date.
In later years, he also turned to production, producing movies like 36 Chowringhee Lane and Junoon.
The Dada Saheb Phalke award is the highest recognition for film personalities in India, and is reportedly given on the basis of recommendations of a committee of eminent people set up by the government.
The 77-year-old is the third member of the Kapoor family to get the prestigious award, following father Prithvi Raj Kapoor and elder brother Raj Kapoor.
