Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated Theresa May on becoming the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and said that he was looking forward to work with her for stronger Indo-UK ties.
"Congratulations to @theresa_may on taking over as the new UK PM. Looking forward to working with her for stronger India-UK ties @Number10gov," the Prime Minister said in a tweet.
He also thanked David Cameron for the contributions he made in this tenure as prime minister.
"I also appreciate the significant contribution of @David_Cameron in strengthening India-UK ties," he said.
Yesterday, Theresa May became Britain's new prime minister, accepting an invitation to govern from Queen Elizabeth II after the resignation of David Cameron.
She promised to lead a "one-nation" government dedicated to social justice and making "Britain a country that works for everyone."

Alluding to the tough negotiations that lie ahead over Britain's exit from the European Union, May said, "we face a time of great national change."
But she said Britain would "rise to the challenge" and forge "a bold new positive role" in the world.
