Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended greetings to the people of South Africa on their freedom day and remembered Madiba (Nelson Mandela) who strived to bring a better tomorrow for his people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter for extending his wishes.
"Greetings to my sisters and brothers of South Africa on Freedom Day. This is a day that celebrates hope and optimism," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
"On Freedom Day we remember the beloved Madiba, an inspiration and a harbinger of change who strived to bring a better tomorrow for his people", he added.
Earlier on Sunday, President Pranab Mukherjee had also extended his greetings and felicitations to the government and people of South Africa on the eve of the country's freedom day and said the relationship between both nations is deeply rooted in history, and over the years, has evolved into a strategic partnership.
"On behalf of the Government and the people of India and on my own behalf, it gives me great pleasure to extend to the friendly people of South Africa warm greetings and felicitations on the occasion of the Freedom Day of South Africa," President Mukherjee said in his message to South African President Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma.
"The relationship between India and South Africa is deeply rooted in history, and over the years, has evolved into a strategic partnership, characterized by multi-faceted engagement covering a range of activities in the political, economic and cultural fields. Our co-operation under the IBSA and the BRICS forum adds even greater value and substance to our engagement," he added.
