PM Modi humbled by China's welcome, respect

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday thanked China for giving him such high respect and said he was humbled by the warm welcome given to him.

"The respect you have given me is respect for all the people of India and I am very thankful for that," PM Modi said during talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Xi'an, the latter's hometown.

"I am humbled by the welcome I have been given, and very thankful for it," he added.

Prime Minister Modi, who is on the first leg of his three-nation tour of China, Mongolia and South Korea, began his visit to the People's Republic by landing in Xi'an.

During his visit of China, Prime Minister Modi will also travel to Beijing and Shanghai, before departing for the second leg of his tour, Mongolia. He will conclude his tour with a visit of South Korea, where he will participate in the sixth Asian Leadership Conference.
