Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a brief meeting with former Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa at India House in Colombo before concluding his five day long three nation tour.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi , who is scheduled to leave for India tonight, returned to Colombo from Jaffna in C-130 J Indian Air Force aircraft, before the meeting.

Prime Minister Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister and only the second foreign leader after British Premier David Cameron to visit Jaffna in the Northern province, where he had handed over homes built with Indian assistance to Tamils.

Some 20,000 such homes were built in Jaffna by India. This is one of New Delhi's flagship cooperation projects in Sri Lanka.

Earlier in the day, accompanied by Sri Lanka's President, Maithripala Sirisena, the Prime Minister offered prayers at the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree in Anuradhapura.

He also inaugurated the Talaimannar 1650 pier railway station and flagged off the Talaimannar- Medawachchiya train.
