PM Modi offers USD 500 million credit for infrastructure projects in Mauritius

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday offered a concessional line of credit of USD 500 million for civil infrastructure projects for Mauritius as the two nations signed five Memorandums of Understanding during his two-day visit to the island nation.

"The outcomes of the meeting are truly significant. I assure the prime minister of timely support in all area including delivery of equipments from India. Today, I was pleased to offer a concessional line of credit of 500 million U.S. dollars for civil infrastructure projects for Mauritius. We intend to quickly build the petroleum storage and bunkering facility in Mauritius," said Prime Minister Modi.

"We have also offered our support for the construction of the second cyber city. I am grateful to you and the people of Mauritius for the invitation as the Chief Guest of the National Day tomorrow. We always stand in solidarity and support for each other. It comes naturally to us from our friendship and shared values. It is no surprise that the prime minister and I had an excellent meeting," he added.

"We value the leadership by Mauritius in this area. We also intend to build a petroleum storage facility in Mauritius," he further added.

The Prime Minister said he and his Mauritian counterpart Anerood Jugnauth considered the security cooperation between the two countries as a cornerstone of their strategic partnership.

"Prime Minister and I consider our security cooperation to be a cornerstone of our strategic partnership. People-to-people contacts are at the foundation of our relationship. Our agreement on cooperation in Ocean Economy is an important step in deepening our scientific and economic partnership," said Prime Minister Modi.

He said both India and Mauritius held discussions on climate change.

We are grateful for the support Mauritius has given us in international forum. We also had a strong meeting of minds on climate change and we are committed on strong national action," he said.

"We have also decided to launch a multidisciplinary youth forum. I am really grateful to prime minister and his team for a very productive and successful meeting. I am excited about the national day celebrations tomorrow," he added.

Prime Minister Modi will be the Chief Guest at the Independence Day celebrations in Mauritius on March 12.

He will also address the National Assembly of the country.
