Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tribute to the late South African revolutionary Nelson Mandela on his 96th birth anniversary, calling it an occasion to reaffirm the commitment to work towards world peace.
"Remembering the apostle of peace, a shining beacon of democracy & a champion of equality, the beloved Madiba on Nelson Mandela Day," the Prime Minister tweeted.
Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician and philanthropist. He served as the President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.
