With around eight members from the Centre's cabinet staying put in Varanasi with their eyes on ensuring the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress has mocked the development saying it clearly indicates Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state of mind.

"If the Prime Minister's recent policies including demonetisation have been so successful, then why is he constantly paranoid? He has called the entire cabinet in Lucknow to Varanasi," Congress leader Kapil Sibal told the media here.

Asserting that the Prime Minister will taste defeat for sure from all his seats in Varanasi, Sibal further stated that hoarding members of his cabinet in Varanasi was a contradiction to his "popular" image being projected by the BJP.

Besides Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Health Minister JP Nadda, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, Minister for Electronics, Union IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Social Justice Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot are reportedly camping in Varanasi laying the groundwork ahead of the former's rallies in the city, before the last phase of polling on March 8.
