President of Indian Social and Culture Centre Ramesh Panicker on Saturday said that one of the long-outstanding issues, which should be discussed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, is NRI's voting right.

"One of the long-outstanding issues that should be discussed, which I should say, is NRIs voting right. This issue was kept in the back-burner," Panicker told ANI.

"We should be thankful to Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil (petitioner in SC for NRI voting rights) for taking up the issue forward up to the Supreme Court level. Almost everything is done except bureaucratic steps," he added.

As per Panicker, if the Parliament sessions and other things were going smoothly, this issue would have been sorted out earlier.

"I am sure today or tomorrow, this issue will get solved," he said.

Prime Minister Modi will arrive in Abu Dhabi on Sunday on a two-day trip. He will hold talks with the leadership of world's second largest Arab economy and address the Indian community, which forms 30 per cent of UAE's population.
