PM Modi stresses on need to develop Somnath Temple as ancient heritage pilgrimage site

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday stressed the need to develop the Somnath Temple in Gujarat as an ancient heritage pilgrimage site and a tourist destination.

Prime Minister Modi, while attending a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Somnath Trust at his residence here, also suggested excavations of areas to establish various missing historic links.

He said that the high-tech marine attractions and virtual reality shows should be covered in the future plan.

The Prime Minister also suggested to bring maximum areas of Somnath under CCTV surveillance network.

During the meeting, the progress of various projects of continuous growth of devotees visiting Somnath was reviewed.

The Trust has also decided to deposit about six kilogram gold under Gold Monetisation Scheme.

BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani chaired the meeting of the Somnath Trust as its Chairman Keshubhai Patel was unwell. Apart from Prime Minister Modi, Harshavardhan Neotia, P K Laheri and J D Parmar who are the trustees also attended the meeting.

The Trustees also said that as Somnath is about to witness one crore of Yatris, the state of the art infrastructure for the all-round development should be envisioned. Somnath has more than two million followers on social media.

The trust also welcomed newly appointed trustee Amit Shah.
