PM Modi to address rallies in Kerala and TN today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address rallies today at Palakkad in Kerala and Hosur, Chennai in Tamil Nadu for the 16th of this month's assembly polls, as campaigning is in full swing in both states with parties making whirlwind tours to garner support for their candidates.

Hitting campaign trail in Chennai last evening, Congress president Sonia Gandhi slammed the AIADMK government of inaction during the recent flood that deluged the city and its suburbs. The AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa in Perundurai claimed, she has ensured keeping inflation under check.

The DMK treasurer MK Stalin in Virudhunagar criticised the election manifesto of the AIADMK, released last night, as a clone of the DMK poll document.

BJP National Secretary Muralidhar Rao told reporters in Chennai, while the country has become a global investment destination, Tamil Nadu remains a laggard in industrial sector saying, this must change.

Meanwhile, in Kerala, the Election Commission is keeping a close vigil on the election expenditure of candidates as the electioneering has gained momentum in the state.

In all, 40 election expenditure observers have been appointed to monitor the payment pattern of candidates in all the 140 constituencies.

The Election Commission has also ordered setting up of auxiliary booths attached to 148 polling booths where the voter population exceeds 1750 electorates.

There will be a total of 250 polling stations fully manned and guarded by women polling officials. Over 800 model polling stations will be set up.

The counting of votes for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala, and also West Bengal and Assam will be taken up on the 19th of this month.
