Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to be the chief guest for the National Day of Mauritius, the Ministry of External Affairs said here on Monday.
"The Prime Minister will visit Mauritius on March 11. We have one-to-one meetings with the Prime Minister Anerood Jugnauth, who recently won the elections there. There would be delegation level talks and state banquet and there will be an address to national assembly. The important thing is that the Prime Minister will be the chief guest at the National Day ceremony on March 12," said Secretary (West) in the MEA, Navtej Sarna.
"This is the 47th National Day of Mauritius and they would be paying a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi as it is the same day when the Dandi March was started. The Prime Minister will be the guest of honour. He will be visiting the Apravasi Ghat. There will be a commissioning of the offshore petrol vessel Barracuda," he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a three-nation visit from March 10 to 14.
Seychelles will be the first leg of the three-nation tour followed by Mauritius and Sri Lanka.
