PM Modi to head reconstituted committee for Nehru's 125th birth anniversary celebrations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reconstituted the national committee created to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

An official statement said that Mr. Modi will himself chair the committee.

Union Home Minister (Rajnath Singh), External Affairs Minister (Sushma Swaraj), Finance Minister (Arun Jaitley), Human Resource Development Minister (Smriti Irani), Culture Minister (Shripad Yesso Naik) and Information and Broadcasting Minister (Prakash Javadekar) will be the ex-officio members of the committee.

Congress Members of Parliament, Mallikarjun Kharge, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Dr Karan Singh, senior journalists and retired bureaucrats are also part the committee.

Union Culture Secretary Ravindra Singh will be the Member Secretary in the committee.

According to the official statement, apart from the full committee, the Prime Minister has also approved the constitution of a National Implementation Committee which will be headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

The first meeting of the Committee will be held after Deepawali, the official statement said.
