Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged the Indian American community to help with the cleaning of the Ganga.

Addressing the gathering at the Madison Square Garden here, Prime Minister Modi said, "People ask me why I am taking up such difficult tasks, like cleaning the Ganga. My reply to them is that I wasn't made the Prime Minister to solve easy problems. Cleaning the Ganga does not only hold religious purposes for me, I feel it will also help to tackle climatic problems."

The Prime Minister also talked of creating a 'Clean India' via his 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' by invoking Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.

"Mahatma Gandhi never compromised on cleanliness. He gave us freedom. The least we can give him back is a clean India," he said.

Prime Minister Modi also talked of his dream of every Indian having a house of his own, a dream he wishes to fulfil within a decade.

"The year 2022 will be very significant for every Indian: it will mark 75 years of our independence. It is an important landmark in Indian culture... I have a dream that by 2022, there should be no one in India without a roof over his head," he said.
