Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday vowed that his government will find a solution to farmer suicides across India, sharing his grief over farmer Gajendra Singh taking his own life during a rally in the national capital.
"For years, the issue of farmers committing suicide has been a matter of great concern. It should be our determination to find a solution to this problem. The issue has been there for too long and we will take all good suggestions to stop it," the Prime Minister said, while addressing the Lok Sabha.
"There is nothing more important than the life of the farmer. Because of yesterday's incident, the grief in the country has been expressed here; I also share this grief. We should all vow to work together and find a solution for this age old problem. We have to find solutions. The problem is old and widespread and the government will accept all suggestions. Nothing more valuable than human life," he added.
Prime Minister Modi further called for suggestion to halt the spate of farmer suicides in the country.
"I join in the grief expressed in this House. We also have to see which wrong road we walked. What were the wrong steps in the past and now. Please give me suggestions, I will take them all into account. I will never betray interests of farmers," he said.
"We are many parties but this is a huge nation. We need to work together and therefore I welcome any suggestion," he added.
