Prime Minister Narendra Modi today wished Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on his 51st birthday and lauded his contribution to the party.
"Birthday greetings to @BJP4India President Shri @AmitShah. His contribution to the Party is immense. I pray for his long life & good health," he tweeted.
Shah, who is the current BJP chief, is a close associate of Prime Minister Modi.
He held a number of portfolios in the state government during Prime Minister Modi's tenure as the Gujarat Chief Minister.
Shah was the Bharatiya Janata Party's in-charge for most politically crucial state, Uttar Pradesh, during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP and its allies swept the entire state, registering their best ever performance, by winning 73 out of 80 seats.
As a result, Shah rose to national prominence and was appointed the BJP's national president in July 2014.
