A female rhino was killed on Sunday night by poachers at the Kaziranga National Park.
The incident took place at around 1.45am, around 200 meters away from the Bahu Bill forest camp in the Burapahar forest range of the National Park.
According to the forest department, several gunshots were heard near the forest camp and police and forest guards were immediately rushed to the site. They later recovered a bullet-riddled dead body of an adult rhino.
However, the poachers managed to escape from the spot along with the rhino horn.
Two live cartridges were also recovered by the forest department, with one live cartridge of AK rifle series.
