Polavaram project is important for the country, said Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday.
The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shipping and Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation was speaking after inspecting the project with Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana E.S.L.Narasimhan and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
They inspected the spillway, concrete works and gates manufacturing facility at the Polavaram project site in West Godavari district.
Gadkari said Polavaram is not only the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh but also fimportant for the country.
He further added that project works are satisfactory and we will find new ways to further speed up the works.
" I hope that Polavaram will completed by December 2018," said Gadkari.

Earlier, Naidu briefed the Union Minister about the progress of project works.
"I have personally inspected the Polavaram project works over 20 times and made 40 virtual inspections so far, " said Naidu.
The Chief Minister added that "we need full co-operation from the Central government for the project and will complete the first phase of Polavaram by December 2018".
Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Sujana Chowdhary, Amarjeet Singh, Special Secretary to Union Water resources Ministry too accompanied them during the visit.
Polavaram is the prestigious multi-purpose irrigation project which has been accorded national project status by the Union government.
