Police seize heroin worth billions, arrest six in New Delhi

Police have seized 36 kilograms of heroin worth rupees 1.5 billion and arrested six people, including two Afghan nationals,in the city yesterday.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), A.S. Cheema, told mediapersons that the police was constantly gathering information about this racket and on July 26 a trap was laid down to get hold of all those involved.

"In all, 36 kilogram of fine quality heroin has been seized and five people have been arrested. One more person, who was wanted in one of the previous cases, has been arrested from Jaipur. Thus, a total six people have been arrested in this case. In the international market, it will cost around rupees 1.5 billion," said Cheema.

He added the heroin was being brought to India through Afghanistan and Pakistan and then supplied to other locations.

"The heroin was being supplied from Afghanistan to Pakistan, and from there it was being supplied, concealed in sandals, in Thar Express train which passes from Munabao border in Rajasthan," added Cheema.

Among the two arrested Afghan nationals is a lady, Saqeeba, who was staying in India since 2010 as a refugee and had also procured refugee card from United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

She also used to assist various Afghan nationals who would visit the national capital for business or medical treatment.

Police is yet to do further investigation to proceed in the case.
