The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Saturday vowed its support to the Janata Dal (United), saying both parties had forged an alliance to keep the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out of power in Bihar.

RJD leader Manoj Jha also accused the BJP of trying to create instability in Bihar politics.

"For the past many days, the BJP has been acting behind the screen. They have tried to create instability and an atmosphere of intolerance in Bihar. The RJD had taken a decision after June that we will support the JD (U) Government irrespective of who leads it. The reason behind the support was to keep the BJP out of Bihar," Jha told ANI here.

"Keeping all this in mind, our national president said yesterday that we will support whatever decision is taken at the JD (U) legislature party meeting," he added.

Earlier today, Jitan Ram Manjhi was sacked as the chief minister of Bihar with the party MLAs electing his predecessor, Nitish Kumar, as their leader during the JD (U) legislature party meeting.

This move by the Janata Dal (United) takes place following the internal friction within the party, as a defiant Manji had refused to give up the chief minister's post.

Senior JD (U) leaders wanted his predecessor Nitish to lead the party yet again in the run-up to the elections due in the state later this year.

Manjhi, who headed a minority government supported by Lalu Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), had earlier declared a meeting called today by JD (U) chief Sharad Yadav as 'illegal'.

Manjhi, who had embarrassed his party on several occasions during his short tenure, had contended that only the chief minister can call a meeting of MLAs.

Nitish, who had resigned as chief minister owning responsibility for his party getting only two of Bihar's 40 Lok Sabha seats, had handpicked Manjhi to take his place last year.
