Prakash Mehta, the Guardian Minister of Raigad district on Wednesday said as many as two buses and five-six private vehicles are still missing after a bridge over the Savitri River collapsed late last night.

Mehta confirmed that two buses and at least six private vehicles had fallen into the river, adding that the water flow was too strong to undertake a rescue effort.

"The administration is there since the last night. The Collectors and other officers have also reached there. Due to darkness, heavy flow of water and rains, it was almost impossible to make any effort at that point of time. The rescue work began this morning," Mehta told ANI.

Adding that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is himself monitoring the situation, Mehta said, "Our first priority is to ensure that we reach out to those injured."

As per reports, about 22 people are missing.

The buses were travelling between Jaigad-Mumbai and another Rajapur-Borivali, respectively.

An NDRF team from Pune has arrived at the spot for search and rescue operations. Heavy rain is causing hurdle in the rescue operation.
