Police in Bangladesh capital Dhaka have launched a demolition-cum-eviction drive in the capital city's illegal Karwan Bazaar, a day after a train mowed down shoppers, killing four and injuring five.
According to the Daily Star, about 100 workers have been deployed to remove structures from the Film Development Corporation (FDC) gate to the Tejgaon Railway Station.
The demolition-cum-eviction drive began at 9 a.m.
On Thursday, four people were killed in an illegal fish market set up on railway lines in Karwan Bazar Thursday as they jumped on to the path of an express train to avoid being run over by another train.
All illegal structures from the FDC area to the Tejgaon rail station will be removed, an official involved with the process, said.
However, the businessmen being evicted alleged that they were being displaced without prior notification. This was rejected by the railway officials, who said that notice had been given well on time.
