Congratulations and praises have poured in for the Indian Men's Hockey team after they defeated Pakistan 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out to clinch the Gold medal in the hockey finals of the Asian Games 2014.
"I congratulate the Indian Hockey team, this will open new gates for sports in India. It is a very big achievement for the nation," Ashok Kumar, son of Hockey legend Dhyan Chand told ANI.
Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan also praised the team saying, "After many years India has won. Earlier, Dhyanchand ji had brought us a lot of glory. He must be awarded the Bharat Ratna. Hockey is our national game and for today's win, I congratulate and thank our team and management."
Former Hockey player Aslam Sher Khan added, "After a very long time, they have defeated Pakistan in the Asian Games and made India stand up again in the Hockey Games in Asia. I believe if the team is encouraged and continues like this, they can create history."
This is India's first gold after 16 years and with this, the country has qualified for the 2016 Olympics.
